Remember Israel, our military and their families, and continue to pray for our nation. But I also know that we cannot afford NOT to fail in most of what we do.Unfortunately, too many of us live by the motto: If at first you don't succeed, don't admit that you tried. Why? We often feel ashamed or embarrassed when we fall flat.In his book THE COURAGE TO FAIL (McGraw-Hill, Inc. 1993),Art Mortell tells about a conversation he had with baseball's LouBrock. It took place when Brock held the record for stolen bases. He was about 35 years old at the time and his days as a professional player were winding down. Brock was talking about why he successfully stole more bases than younger, faster players."When you start out in baseball," Brock said, "you're young and you have the speed and reflexes. However, when you try to steal second base and you get thrown out, it's a long walk back to the dugout, with40,000 fans watching you. When you reach my age, you come to understand that records are not set by being the quickest, but by the willingness to look bad in the eyes of others."There are other ways to avoid failure throughout life:* Never ask anyone out. There will be no possibility of rejection and embarrassment.* Never ask for a promotion. That way you will not risk the humiliation of being turned down.* Never go back to school. Pray for revival at home and abroad so that the fire of the Holy Spirit would burn out dross and all impurities from our lives and create a burning desire to see people saved, healed, delivered from bondage and free to worship God in spirit and truth. When you pray for our nation, remember Israel and ask God to give us wisdom regarding our dealings with other countries. Continue to pray for discernment when voting in the upcoming elections. SPRING FORTH

Spring is here, life is popping up everywhere, flowers that we forgot we had are springing forth with beauty. The showers and the sun have been just what was needed to bring them forth. God has sent His Word and His Spirit and it has brought forth the beauty that He desires to bring out in each of us. O that we might show forth His glory to this world that they may see His good works in us and come and glorify Him with their lives. Taste and see that God is GOOD.

The thought that God likes my company thrills me more than I can explain to you. And if He likes my company, He likes yours too—He is no respecter of persons (see Acts 10:34; 1 Pet. 1:17). The same blood that purchased Peter's and Paul's salvation bought yours and mine. Moreover, it is the blood that gives all of us equal access into God's presence (see Heb. 10:19). Therefore, I can put out of my mind the thought that some people are more acceptable to God than others. One's profile in church has nothing to do with being accepted by Him—or loved or enjoyed. We are all on level ground. No one is at the head of the line just because she has a higher profile in the church, has been a Christian a longer time, has been on a 40-day fast, or has fame in the world. Being a head of state gives you no leverage. As St. Augustine put it, "God loves every person as if there were no one else to love."

Bluebird of Happiness

A sign in a pet store read, "If anybody has seen the Bluebird of Happiness, would you please notify this pet store?"Happiness seems to be in short supply for many people. If the results of recent surveys can be trusted, there is a general decline of happiness in today's world. And people were not all that cheerful a few years back! It was Oliver Wendell Holmes who stated,"I might have been a minister for aught I know, if a certain clergyman had not looked and talked like an undertaker." (I have to say, though, that some clergy and undertakers I've known could teach the rest of us something about joy.) Joy and happiness are not always the same things. Happiness can be thought of as more of a temporary, emotional condition, often based on outside circumstances. Joy, on the other hand, is deeper. It is often contentment in spite of the unsettling present. We can be basically joyful, regardless of a particular unhappy situation that we may be enduring. It is sometimes just a matter of keeping perspective on our troubles, and especially when those troubles seem to be in long supply.You may know the story of the man who had a marvelous way of keeping joy in his life. He was a carpenter. He followed the same ritual every day when he came home from the job. He stopped by a small tree in his front yard and placed his hand on a couple of branches. Then,when he walked into his home, it was as if a magical transformation had occurred. All of a sudden, the stress was lifted from him. He became energetic and joyful, able to fully interact with his children and his wife.He explained it this way: "That tree is my trouble tree. When I come home I stop by the tree and, just like I leave my tools in the truck, I leave my troubles outside of my home. I hang them on that tree before greeting my family. Anything that does not have to come in my house stays outside. Anything that I do not have to deal with at home, I leave on that tree. And in the morning, I stop by the tree and pick up the troubles I left there in the evening."Then he adds, "It's a funny thing, though. Every morning I always find fewer troubles remaining than I hung the night before."Here is a man who has no doubt seen the Bluebird of Happiness.Chances are, it is nesting in a tree just outside his home.There is wisdom in knowing that some problems can wait until tomorrow. And more wisdom in knowing what to hang on the tree and what to bring in. Managing daily problems well is vital to maintaining joy.

One of Your Greatest Spiritual Weapons

Ephesians 6:12 tells us that our struggles are not with other human beings but with the devil and his demons. Satan, the enemy of our souls, attempts to defeat us with strategy and deceit through well-laid plans and deception.
But the devil is a liar. Jesus called him "the father of lies and of all that is false" (John 8:44, The Amplified Bible). He tells us things about ourselves, people and circumstances that are just not true. He does not, however, tell us the entire lie all at once.
He begins by bombarding our minds with a cleverly devised pattern of little nagging thoughts, suspicions, doubts, wonderings, reasoning and theories. He moves slowly and cautiously. He has a strategy for his warfare-he has studied us for a long time.
He knows what we like and don't like. He knows our insecurities, weaknesses and fears. He is willing to invest any amount of time it takes to defeat us.
Through careful strategy and cunning deceit, Satan attempts to set up "strongholds" in our minds. A stronghold is an area in which we are held in bondage (in prison) due to a certain way of thinking (see 2 Cor. 10:4-5).
The apostle Paul tells us in these verses we have the weapons we need to overcome Satan's strongholds and that we are engaged in spiritual warfare. Verse 5 shows clearly where the war is waged. The Amplified Bible translation of this verse says that we are to "refute arguments" with these weapons. The devil argues with us, offering theories and reasoning. All this activity goes on in the mind-the true battlefield.
One weapon is God's Word received through preaching, teaching, reading and private Bible study. But we must continue in the Word until it becomes revelation given by inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Continuing is important.
Jesus said, "The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you" (Mark 4:24). We must continue using the weapon of the Word.
Praise and prayer are other available spiritual weapons. Praise defeats the devil faster and more efficiently than any other battle plan, but it must be genuine heart-praise, not just lip service or a method being tried to see if it works. Also, praise and prayer involve the Word. We praise God according to His Word and His goodness.
Prayer is relationship with the Godhead. It is asking for help or talking with God about something that bothers us.
To have an effective prayer life, we must develop a good personal relationship with the Father. Know that He loves you, that He is full of mercy, that He will help you. Get to know Jesus. He is your friend. He died for you. Get to know the Holy Spirit. He is with you all the time as your Helper. Let Him help you.
Learn to fill your prayers with the Word of God. Even Jesus used the weapon of the Word in the wilderness to defeat Satan (see Luke 4:1-13). Each time the devil lied to Jesus, He responded with, "It is written," and quoted the Word to him. The truth is always revealed through the Word.
Unfortunately, people don't always accept it. It is a painful process to face our faults and deal with them. Generally speaking, people justify misbehavior. They allow their past and how they were raised to negatively affect the rest of their lives.
Our pasts may explain why we're suffering, but we must not use it as an excuse to stay in bondage. Jesus will walk us across the finish line to victory in any area if we are willing to go all the way through it with Him.
Satan knows well that if he can control our thoughts, he can control our actions. If you have any major strongholds in your life that need to be broken, let me encourage you by saying, "God is on your side."
There is a war going on, and your mind is the battlefield. But the good news is that God is fighting on your side. Joyce Meyer

MY DESTINY IS FULLFILLED AT JESUS FEET

The power of choice that God has given to every person cannot be underestimated. How dramatically our right to choose affects the course of our lives! Naomi's choice to return to Bethlehem-Judah would ultimately result in her personal restoration. Ruth's choice to follow Naomi and serve Naomi's God brought her to a wonderful destiny.
Orpah's name means "stiff-necked or skull." The decision Orpah made to stay in Moab reflected the inflexible, unyielding character described by her name and resulted in her death in obscurity—she was never heard of again. Such is the end of stiff-necked people. It is better to have a harnessed heart than a stiff neck.
Ruth's name means "friend." She proved her friendship to Naomi and to God by her willingness to leave all she held dear to follow Naomi and serve her God. This beauty of character is to be revealed throughout the rest of the narrative as Ruth gains a reputation in the whole city of Bethlehem-Judah as a virtuous woman.
Ruth's treatise was a sevenfold declaration that revealed her heart's determination. The key words in Ruth's treatise were "I will." These two words expressed the intent of her heart and formed the basis of her decision. As we observe Orpah's tearful decision not to follow Naomi, we understand that Ruth's choice was not based on emotion or sentiment, but on a decision of her will.
Decision itself is exhilarating and refreshing. Some people never know the joys and delights of walking with God because they do not choose to make decisions in favor of God, His Word and His ways. Decisive people are seldom the subject of continued despair; they are steadfastly minded. As we decide to follow God's will, our decision will have wonderful results in our lives, as Ruth's did.
The treatise of "I wills" made by Ruth consisted of seven elements: "Whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge; thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me" (Ruth 1:16-17, KJV).
This last "I will." Though not explicitly expressed, is understood, for Ruth was declaring in essence, "I will seal this treatise with a covenant. The Lord do so to me and more also if ought but death part thee and me."
Ruth's resolve is a classic for all of literature. As an expression of love and loyalty, these words cannot be surpassed. Here is supreme devotion; here is love to the uttermost, not only passionately expressed, but as history declares, determinedly fulfilled. The beauty of its form and the utter devotion of a genuine and self-conquering love has made Ruth's vow one that never shall be forgotten. The secret of such love and loyalty is kinship in the matters of the soul and of eternity. There can be no true love, no lasting loyalty, without this kinship of soul and spirit.
Ruth's vow has stamped itself indelibly on the heart of the church. Believers throughout history have followed her example in choosing to live, and die, for God alone. How many have gained their courage to face martyrdom from reading the testimony of Ruth!
Like Ruth, we should resolve to pursue God to the end, casting our lot with the separated, sanctified people of God, cleaving to the eternal God of the Bible. Like Ruth we should enter God's field and be willing to serve. Like Ruth, we should abandon ourselves to our glorious, heavenly "Boaz," and stay at His feet until morning.

The Power of A Mothers Prayer by Ruth Whitfield

I remember seeing my mother kneeling at the side of her bed and praying aloud for each of her children and grandchildren. That memory is forever etched in my mind and I will never forget sensing a strong presence of God through her intercession. I came away with a sense of reverential fear and trust that no matter what would happen to any of us, God would honor her prayers on our behalf.
My mother is in glory now and it's a comfort to know that the Lord continues to honor those prayers. It encourages me to continue to pray for my own children and grandchildren no matter how uncertain their futures or what they are currently facing.
I am sure that there are bittersweet moments for each of us whose parents have gone on to be with the Lord. We remember them. We miss them. We now realize how wise they really were. Our hope in the Lord is that we will see them again and enjoy His presence together.
Except for Eve, the mother of all living, we've all been blessed with mothers. Our mothers helped shape who we are today—for good or not so good. We learned from their example and from their mistakes. And when we had children of our own we realized what a challenge they faced raising us.
Some of us are privileged to have our moms around to help us with our own children. They bring the wisdom of experience and offer their time, love and energy to the task. What a blessing to have a doting grandma to pour unconditional love on our offspring!
But even with all that, the Holy Spirit is our best adviser, teacher and counselor. He knows what's best for each child and can give us the insight to know what each needs and how to pray His will concerning each one. God hears a mother's prayer.
I am thankful for His instruction and "coaching" as I grappled through years of raising an autistic son in a ministerial fish bowl filled with well-meaning parishioners giving "expert" advice concerning things they knew nothing about. Without the Lord, we would not have made it. Time and time again, He would admonish me to trust Him with our son.
That was not an easy task. We would place him on the altar so to speak, and then quickly take him off, load ourselves with worry, then place him on the altar again. Then we'd call on the Lord for help and take one day at a time doing as He directed. The result was miraculous! Today, he's a grown man who loves and serves the Lord, is gainfully employed and active in the men's group at church. Surely, God is worthy of our trust.
Surely, He knows what's best for us and for our children. He is totally trustworthy.
Sometimes we worry when we don't see our children going in the direction we feel would be best for them. Yet we have His promise that if we raise them and train them in the way they should go, when they are old they will not depart from them (see Prov. 22:6). Though they may stray as they try to find their own way in life, they will return to what was instilled in them (see 2 Tim. 3:15). It's a promise.
Perhaps you are a single parent wrestling with raising your children and working full time. You feel exhausted and overwhelmed. You wonder how you are going to make it through another day. Take heart. You are not alone. The Holy Spirit will provide and direct you each step of the way. Our Father hears a mother's prayer. Trust Him.
If God has blessed you with a special-needs child, know that He has given you a treasure. It may not feel that way sometimes. You may feel as if you are the only one carrying the responsibility relating to your child, your spouse, your other children and the household. And if you also work outside the home it's a balancing act like no other. But His grace will enable you to do all He requires of you. You will learn the meaning of unconditional love and enjoy deep fellowship with Him. His love and grace is available—and it's free.
Perhaps your children are grown and your mom is in her golden years and needing care. The tables have turned and you are now the caregiver and she is the one needing your help. It's difficult for her to transition from total independence to needing care and provision. Do you struggle with the demands of your own family and her needs? Well, you are not alone. Honoring your mom in this season takes as much grace as handling a household of kids, a special-needs child, a full-time job and a cranky husband. But God is able to sustain you and go even beyond your need. He is there to give you His sufficiency, rest and restoration as you take time to get alone with Him.
No matter what season of life you are walking through, the Lord is there for you. As a daughter honoring her mother, a mother enjoying her children or one who is pulled in many directions at once, our God is more than able to provide you with everything you need to make this the most wonderful season of your life. Remember that God answers a mother's prayer. Happy Mother's Day!

A LESSON ON SOCIALISM

An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student before but had, once, failed an entire class. The class had insisted that socialism worked - and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer for all, for society. The professor then said ok, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism. He said that all grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone was given a B. The students who studied hard were upset, and the student s who studied little were happy. But, as the second test rolled around, the students who hadn't studied much for the first test had studied even less, and the ones who studied hard weren't motivated to study hard again, and they decided they wanted a free ride too; so they studied little. The second Test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around the average was an F. The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for anyone else. All failed .... and the professor told them that the socialism they wanted would ultimately fail, as they had, because the reward of success normally goes to those that work harder, but when government takes the reward away; few will try so no one will succeed.

Promise, Problem, Provision

This is a very personal confession of a pastor who has survived and prospered in the ministry for more than 50 years. What I am sharing is the result of the life lessons I have learned in those years. No one wants to hear from a prophet who has no scars.
I have endured many problems in my life. Some have been self-imposed, while other problems have been spiritual or physical attacks from the depths of hell. No matter what the source, God has used these problems to help build character, endurance and understanding. I have sometimes received God’s supernatural promises swiftly, and other promises have taken me months or years to receive because of how I have conducted myself while in the problem.
I believe there is an all-knowing and all-powerful God who created the heavens and the earth and controls the affairs of men. I believe that every person has a divine destiny, one known only to God since before the world was created ... before we breathed our first breath. That divine destiny or purpose is our only path to love, joy and peace.
I also believe there is a divine principle found in sacred Scripture called “promise, problem and provision.” Simply stated, God begins leading us to our divine destiny by giving us a scriptural promise. This is followed by a problem or series of problems meant to bring us to the level of spiritual maturity whereby we can receive His miracle provision. If we reject His provision, we will miss our divine destiny, and we will live our life without meaning or purpose.
A classic biblical illustration that helps us understand the absolute truth of promise, problem and provision is found in the example of the children of Israel. God promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that He would give to them and their descendants a nation whose boundaries are forever specified in Scripture. This Promised Land, a land flowing with milk and honey, would be God’s miracle provision.
The Jewish people became a nation in Egypt. God sent Moses as their deliverer and brought about the first Passover, which led them to their exodus out of Pharaoh’s bondage. Then came the problems—at the Red Sea, with the idol crafted by Aaron at Mount Sinai, and at the tent of meeting where 250 Israelites who rebelled against Moses were buried alive by God in an earthquake.
The children of Israel were stuck in the wilderness—their problem—for 40 years, when it could have taken only 40 days to arrive at their promise. It is while in the problem that God exposes the inner weaknesses preventing His children from reaching their destiny. Eventually God allowed them to reach their Promised Land, His provision and their divine destiny.
Life brings its share of problems, but every problem has a promise that will lead you to God’s supernatural provision—your promised land.
The “promised land” is your land, one flowing with milk and honey, a land of unspeakable abundance. It is a land filled with the favor of God, a land of love, joy and everlasting peace.
Problems not only happen to bad people; bad problems also happen to good people. Adversity is God’s university! God has given to us more than 3,000 promises in His Word. Every promise is custom designed in heaven to help us journey through the problems of life and receive the supernatural provision available for each problem we encounter.
It is imperative for God’s children to discover the principle for transforming the problems of our lives into the provisions of God. Promise, problem and provision is a supernatural principle based on the Word of God that will give you wells you did not dig, houses you did not build and vineyards you didn’t plant. It will turn your darkest night to golden day. It will fill your desert into streams of living water.

A few years ago I read of a Ukraine businessman who bought a pager for each member of his staff as a New Year's gift. As he was returning from the pager shop, all 50 beepers on the back seat of his automobile simultaneously burst out screeching. He was so alarmed that he drove his car into a lamp post, just 100 meters from his office. After he assessed the damage to the car, the businessman turned his attention to the message on the 50 pagers. It read: "Congratulationson a successful purchase!" (Reuters, Jan. 14, 1999) That got his attention. Unfortunately, it's the bad news – newspaper headlines and world events – that generally clamor the loudest to get noticed. And there is enough bad news all around. I came across an article that reported a study of a large group of people who were instructed to evaluate all the information they received for a year and a half. They were asked to record whether what they were seeing and hearing all day long was positive or negative. These researchers determined tha tninety percent of the input the group received was negative – bad news.That may not come as a surprise to everyone. Over a half-century ago,Franklin Roosevelt told about an old man who was losing his hearing and went to the doctor for help. He was advised to quit drinking alcohol. When his family asked him what he was going to do, he replied, "Well, I've given it a lot of thought and I've decided I like what I've been drinkin' so much better than what I've been hearin', I'm just gonna keep on gettin' deaf."But there is still GOOD news aplenty. We can still hear encouraging words from friends. Any day we can witness numerous acts of generosity and kindness. And we can still spot signs all around us of love and hope. Sometimes we may have to look a little more closely, but the good news is there.

He sought guidance from books (one-a-week), specialist like Dr. John Maxwell. In 10 years, they grew to an attendance of 628. Presently, the Twin Rivers Worship Center in St. Louis, MO, has an attendance over 3,000. The focus of LDI will be growing from 50 to 500.

If you are like me, there are some things you may feel you do pretty well, and others that you would not admit to having done even at gunpoint! Please don't expect anything I build with my hands to remain standing past sundown, or anything I attempt to repair to ever stay fixed after I leave the room. And if my cars relied solely on me to keep them going, I would walk most everywhere I go.On the other hand, I do play guitar adequately and I can make a memorable enchilada dish. I also enjoy working with people and I seem to have made it a lifel ong project to learn how to become a better listener.I never thought of myself as one who has any great talent, but like each of us, I have certain skills and abilities. Let me tell you a story, however, I once heard speaker Les Brown relate. It's a story about a man who had real talent.This particular man played piano in a bar. He was a good piano player.People came out just to hear him and his combo play. But one night, a patron wanted them to sing a particular song. The trio didn't sing much and declined.But the customer was persistent. He told the bartender, "I'm tired of listening to the piano. I want that guy to sing!"The bartender shouted across the room, "Hey buddy! If you want to get paid, sing the song. The patrons are asking you to sing!"So he did. He sang a song. A jazz piano player who had never sung the song in public did so for the very first time. And nobody had ever heard Sweet Lorraine sung the way it was sung that night by Nat King Cole.He had talent he was sitting on. He may have lived the rest of his life playing in a jazz trio in no-name bars, but because he had to sing, he went on to become one of the best-known entertainers in America.You, too, have skills and abilities. You may not feel as if your"talent" is particularly great, but it may be better than you think! And with persistence, most skills can be improved. Besides, you may as well have no ability at all if you sit on whatever talent you possess. Some people ask, "What ability do I have that is useful?" But the better question is: "How will I use the ability that I have?"

Anonymous. I'd like to meet that person sometime. Anonymous has come up with some of the funniest and pithiest expressions I have ever heard. And he (or is it she?) can also be so deeply profound at times. Like these words from Anonymous about what enthusiasm can do for us:"In difference never wrote great works, nor thought out striking inventions, nor reared the solemn architecture that awes the soul, nor breathed sublime music, nor painted glorious pictures, nor undertook heroic philanthropies. All these grandeurs are born of enthusiasm, and are done heartily."I'm reminded of that great 18th century founder of Methodism, John Wesley. When asked how he drew such large crowds of people to hear him preach, he responded, "I set myself on fire and they come out and watch me burn!" People are drawn to enthusiasm.Where there is no enthusiasm, there is no passion. Where there is no passion, there is no great living. Are we meant simply to be satisfied with mediocre lives? From antiquity to the present, indifference has stolen from too many peoplethe chance to do something important with their lives. What I've Learned

Here is one brief summary of a life's learnings:

Age 5: I learned that things are easier when someone is holding yourhand.
Age 10: I learned to never blow in a cat's ear.
Age 15: I learned that although it's hard to admit it, I'm secretly glad my parents are strict with me.
Age 20: I learned that if you want to cheer yourself up, you shouldtry cheering someone else up.
Age 25: I learned that if someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that no one will believe it.
Age 30: I learned that there are people who love you dearly but just don't know how to show it.
Age 35: I learned that if I want to do something positive for my children, I should work to improve my marriage.
Age 40: I learned that the greater people's sense of guilt, the greater their need to blame others.
Age 45: I learned that I can never allow the disappointments of life to steal my enthusiasm.
Age 50: I learned that I can tell a lot about a person by the waythey handle these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.
Age 55: I learned that keeping a vegetable garden is worth a medicine cabinet full of pills.
Age 60: I learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.
Age 65: I learned that I shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands. I need to be able to throw something back.
Age 70: I learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you miss them terribly after they die.
Age 75: I learned that children and grandparents are natural allies.
Age 80: I learned that even suffering has its gifts.
Age 85: I learned that whenever I decide something with kindness, I usually make the right decision.
Age 90: I learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.

Isn't it true? If we're not learning, we're not improving. If we're not improving, we're not growing. And if we're not growing, we're not living. Some people worry about dying.

I am more concerned with living - as well and as fully as possible. Learn - improve - grow - live. Learn as if you might live forever and you'll live as if you might die tomorrow.

My mother passed away last year. Before she died she confessed to me that she had had numerous abortions. I already knew this from listening to her testimony. She would speak of her regret and how grateful she was for the loving forgiveness shown on the cross for her sins. Still, as she would speak to people about her blindness in understanding what she did, her voice held a deeply abiding pain that only God could remove.The unveiling of her story was hard to hear. Even though abortions were illegal then, there was never a time when she could not obtain one by a licensed physician. They were done in their offices after hours, with an attending nurse and complete aftercare; certainly not the stories of back alleys that one might imagine.My mother said, "Even though I would feel a deep emptiness, and sometimes sorrow, I would soon justify that it was necessary and move on." She said that she was very cold. She tried to believe that it wasn't really a baby at all, as the doctors would say. But the stark empty, cold feeling would always return to her."I am sure that they don't tell women that part of it when they go to have abortions. Only my salvation in Christ removed that emptiness," she said before she died. But what I wasn't prepared to hear from my loving mother, who led me to the Lord and taught me of His wonderful ways, was her joy over a decision she made one night. She had scheduled another abortion when a powerful force came over her and brought strong conviction. This time she could not do this terrible thing, and then she turned to me and said, "It was the time that I was pregnant with you!" "Your father and I had gotten married and I had become disenchanted with him and wanted a divorce, but I was pregnant with you. I decided that I didn't need another child to take care of. However, that time was different. I didn't understand it, but I knew that I could not go through with the abortion. It was the beginning of my search for salvation and the love that came to me from having you." My father and mother went on to have two more children with a marriage that lasted until she passed away, and she left behind a strong legacy of witness for our Lord Jesus.Now my husband and I have a ministry to individuals dealing with alcohol and drug abuse. Crosspoint Ministries reaches out to the homeless and mentally ill, as well as those in need of freedom from their addictions. We clothe, house, train, counsel and minister to people no one wants. My husband has a master's degree in mental health and we now have bed space for up to 55. We have ministered to more than 1,250 people. We've seen 850 conversions and baptisms. Several thousand have received prayer ministry and food. It is humbling but awesome to see God's power at work. I am amazed at His goodness.If my mother had chosen abortion I would never have had the opportunity to enjoy what I do today. I just wonder what contribution to mankind the 45 million people who were aborted in this country alone would have made if they had been allowed to live. It boggles the mind. Think of the loss of possibilities—great minds, loving mothers and fathers. Think of the loss of those men and women who could have made differences in the world but were deprived of their chance to fulfill a destiny. Think of the many lives God could have used to witness of His salvation. What a massive loss!I am so grateful to our heavenly Father that He gave me life and that I am living it and giving back to His kingdom. Although my life began at conception, my mother could have chosen to end it, but she first heeded the tug of conviction to allow me to live and then the wooing of the Spirit to receive Christ. That choice made all the difference.So how can we vote for a political party that supports aborting the lives and destinies of those God intended to live? I cannot—and I trust that you will join me in voting for one who believes in the right to life rather than the choice to end it.

Building On Values

"I don't subscribe to the thesis, 'Let the buyer beware,'" said the late writer Isaac Asimov. "I prefer the disregarded one that goes,'Let the seller be honest.'"Look at the financial problems of today's world. How many of these problems were the result of inferior products (dubious mortgages, inthis case) sold to unaware buyers?I am convinced that long-range successful businesses, and truly successful lives, are built on values. Two of those values are honesty and integrity.Over a century ago, clothier John Wanamaker, whose retail business grew into one of the world's first department stores, would have agreed. Wanamaker is sometimes called the father of modern advertising. He instilled the attitude of utmost honesty in his employees.The story is told of one of his advertising people who was instructed to make a sign promoting neck ties that were reduced in price from onedollar apiece to 25 cents. After personally examining the ties, the marketer asked, "Are they any good?""No, they're not," he was told.Wanamaker would have been completely honest, so the ad copy had to reflect the attitude of the store. The necktie advertisement was finally written this way: "They are not as good as they look, but they are good enough at 25 cents." The department sold out of ties almostimmediately and was forced to purchase several more weeks' supply of cheap ties to fill the persistent demand (Selling Solutions, Juanita Ruiz, Ed., Oct. 1995).Wanamaker believed that only a business based on values has real value. And businesses of value are always successful. Can't it also be said that a life built on values has real value? And when you and I build our lives on honesty and integrity, we will likewise know success.

The Blessing of Work by Sunday Adelaja

Hard work and the favor of the Lord rescued me from a life of oblivion. But many believers have wrong ideas about work. They think it's a curse, an obligation, a means of supporting themselves or a means of getting rich. Even worse, some see work as entirely separate from their kingdom life. They think that working for God and advancing their own careers are two different things.
But God has established work as a blessing for mankind and for His kingdom. Work was part of Adam's calling before the fall. His job was to subdue the earth, tend the garden and manage the animals. For us, hard work is a key to subduing our own promised lands.
God Himself works, and so did Jesus: "But Jesus answered them, 'My Father has been working until now, and I have been working'" (John 5:17, NKJV).
Jesus worked, and works still, because work was established by His Father as something good for humanity. During His earthly life, Jesus worked as a carpenter and as a preacher. He fully devoted Himself to the ministry and showed a strong work ethic. Anyone who does not work disgraces himself and steals from the wealth of those who do labor. "He who is slothful in his work is a brother to him who is a great destroyer" (Prov. 18:9).
If a man does not work, he gives nothing of value to the world. He is a thief. He is useless to God. We are made to bless one another through our labor. Work is good! You will not fulfill your potential in God's kingdom without hard work. Failure in life never means a person lacks gifts. But it may mean he failed to put the gifts to work. God gives everyone a chance to become successful. The resources you need to impose the kingdom on your sphere of influence are inside of you. Each person will give an account before God of how he used these talents and how much of his potential he fulfilled.
Some people don't work because they can't find a job that will pay them what they want. Some don't want to get a job for which they are "overqualified." But God will not give you something big if He doesn't see your faithfulness in small things. That low-paying job may be your first step toward discovering and ruling your promised land.
Some Christians have amazing talents but experience little results because they have not learned to work. Others are nothing but dreamers. They sit and wait for a breakthrough to come. But they forget that success won't drop into their laps like manna from heaven. People who think that God will do everything Himself while they just sit around and make big plans are pitiful.
Work has many side benefits. It gives us money to pay our basic needs. It keeps us mentally healthy by focusing our minds on something productive. It keeps us out of trouble. It reveals our gifts and helps us discover our potential and abilities. Work is the gift of God to man for him to discover himself. It is the means by which dreams, ideas and goals become reality. It allows us to become a co-creator with God. It makes us a blessing to other people. It increases our skills and abilities.
But by far the most important aspect of work is that it allows us to exercise dominion over all of God's creation. As kings and priests of the earth, we are to do more work and be more diligent than anyone else (see Eccl. 9:10 and Prov. 12:11).
Only those who know how to work hard will be satisfied with results. God is not obliged to bless people that do not work hard. But he that tills his land will be satisfied with bread.
It's time to start working hard for the kingdom. Let's all work hard to develop our gifts, passions and callings so we might have maximum impact for Christ. Hard work is necessary to develop the nature and character of Christ in ourselves. And hard work is absolutely critical to successfully bring the principles of God into our spheres of influence and in turn into the life of a nation. Let's train ourselves in this key kingdom principle so the land can become ours for the glory of God.

Ask God to direct you to vote for those that stand for what is godly and not their own agendas. James 5:16; 2 Chron. 7:14

Even Jesus Had To Pray

Jesus modeled a lifestyle of prayer for us, as shown in the Gospels. Even though He was Lord and possessed all dominion and authority, while on Earth He had to operate according to the laws set forth by God for all humans (see Gen. 1:26-27; John 10:1-2). Even Jesus had to ask the Father for the things He needed on Earth.
God Himself declared in the book of Psalms: "'Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession" (Ps. 2:8, NKJV).
It is true, even Jesus had to pray: "'And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever'" (John 14:16). If He had to approach His Father in prayer, then surely we can understand His instruction to us: "'So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened'"(Luke11:9-10, emphasis added).
Jesus' instruction in Luke 11 not only reminds us of our need to spend time with the Father in prayer, but it also tells us of the Father's response when we do pray. He will listen! He will open the door! He will provide!
Remember the words of James: "You do not have because you do not ask" (James 4:2). I don't know who came up with the idea that God doesn't answer prayer. All I see in the Scriptures is the God whom Jesus described in Mark 11:22-24. "'Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, "Be removed and be cast into the sea," and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.'"
God longs for us to rediscover the power of that old-fashioned "sweet hour of prayer." A brief prayer mumbled somewhere between the on-ramp of the freeway and the fast-food window on the way to work is not enough! That is not characteristic of a prayer life based on a vibrant relationship with a living God. It is the fulfillment of an obligation—and a half-hearted fulfillment at that. Such "prayer" can never fill the longing of either the Father's heart or your own.
Jesus still calls out to believers just as He called to the slumbering disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane: "'What! Could you not watch with Me one hour?'" (Matt. 26:40).
I hear another voice, the voice of Andrew Murray. Hear him as he too calls us to drink from the well of fervent prayer: "[This] is the secret of the life of prayer. Take time in the inner chamber to bow down and worship; and wait on Him till He unveils Himself, and takes possession of you, and goes out with you to show how a man may live and walk in abiding fellowship with an unseen Lord."
Why do we believe we can live the victorious Christian life without prayer when even the Son of God needed times of fervent prayer just to go from day to day? No preacher is fit to speak to God's people until he has first paid the price in prayer to hear the heart of the Father concerning His people. No Christian can claim to be fully equipped and prepared to live for Christ until he or she first pays the price to seek His face and surrender all to Him.
If you want to grow in your faith, receive powerful answers to your prayers and live as an overcoming victorious Christian, schedule time to privately meet with God to pray and be sure to keep the appointment.

Cell phone vs. Bible

Ever wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat
our cell phone?
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we flipped through it several time a day?
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?
What if we gave it to kids as gifts?
What if we used it when we traveled?
What if we used it in case of emergency?
This is something to make you go....hmm...where is my Bible?
Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cell phone, we don't have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.
Makes you stop and think 'where are my priorities? And no dropped calls!

He Can Do The Impossibilety Max Lucado

The kingdom of heaven. Its citizens are drunk on wonder.
Consider the case of Sarai. She is in her golden years, but God promises her a son. She gets excited. She visits the maternity shop and buys a few dresses. She plans her shower and remodels her tent ... but no son. She eats a few birthday cakes and blows out a lot of candles ... still no son. She goes through a decade of wall calendars ... still no son.
So Sarai decides to take matters into her own hands. ("Maybe God needs me to take care of this one.")
She convinces Abram that time is running out. ("Face it, Abe, you ain't getting any younger, either.") She commands her maid, Hagar, to go into Abram's tent and see if he needs anything. ("And I mean 'anything'!") Hagar goes in a maid. She comes out a mom. And the problems begin.
Hagar is haughty. Sarai is jealous. Abram is dizzy from the dilemma. And God calls the baby boy a "wild donkey"--an appropriate name for one born out of stubbornness and destined to kick his way into history.
It isn't the cozy family Sarai expected. And it isn't a topic Abram and Sarai bring up very often at dinner.
Finally, fourteen years later, when Abram is pushing a century of years and Sarai ninety ... when Abram has stopped listening to Sarai's advice, and Sarai has stopped giving it ... when the wallpaper in the nursery is faded and the baby furniture is several seasons out of date ... when the topic of the promised child brings sighs and tears and long looks into a silent sky ... God pays them a visit and tells them they had better select a name for their new son.
Abram and Sarai have the same response: laughter. They laugh partly because it is too good to happen and partly because it might. They laugh because they have given up hope, and hope born anew is always funny before it is real.
They laugh at the lunacy of it all.
They laugh because that is what you do when someone says he can do the impossible. They laugh a little at God, and a lot with God--for God is laughing, too. Then, with the smile still on his face, he gets busy doing what he does best--the unbelievable.
He changes a few things--beginning with their names. Abram, the father of one, will now be Abraham, the father of a multitude. Sarai, the barren one, will now be Sarah, the mother.
But their names aren't the only things God changes. He changes their minds. He changes their faith. He changes the number of their tax deductions. He changes the way they define the word impossible.

When it became known that Sarah Palin grew up as a Pentecostal, it was only a matter of time before the attacks began. Palin and the McCain campaign have been discreet about her faith. And our article in the new issue of Charisma (in the mail now) and in our Charisma News Bulletin (click here to read it) says that she has attended the “evangelical” Wasilla Bible Church since 2002.
It’s not uncommon for Pentecostals to be made fun of in the press. It’s happened for years--even by other Christians who look down on or disagree with Pentecostal distinctives such as speaking in tongues. But a cartoon at washingtonpost.com by Pat Oliphant went too far and borders on blasphemy. Read more if you want to be shocked.
Also, below is a letter from David Tyree, the New York Jets football player who made the amazing “catch” at the Super Bowl. You’ll want to read his letter about how to order his new book. This year’s Super Bowl was a day I will never forget. There will be many stories told of the behind-the-scenes events that led up to that historic game. God moved so suddenly and miraculously there that “David Tyree” has become a household name. And, because of a couple of plays, now people want to know my story.
More Than Just The Catch tells my story. It includes the good, the bad, and the ugly. When you finish it, you will know that its message is about more than a game. It is about a life changed and the One who changed it. God allowed me to be a part of what some people have called the greatest play in Super Bowl history to provide a platform so that He would get the glory. I believe that many lives will be touched by the truth of this.
My motive for sharing my life story is to encourage others to put their trust in God. I want people to know that Jesus is real. I pray that my testimony will release miracles to every person who reads it. I especially want to shout out this promise to the young people who think it is boring to serve God: miracles are never boring!
I also pray that my story will touch the lives of professional athletes who have been distracted and separated from the reality of what success is. When the cameras’ flashing lights dim and go out, I cannot be a hero to the world and not be a hero...

due to the nature of what they're facing.

Pastor David Tadlock has requested to
be released from pastoral duties to give
attention to his wife's health issues. Pray
for this family; also, for the future of
Elba.

Two other churches will have a pastor
change by September 1. Unless there's
divine intervention, Vina will close soon.

The final hours of preparation for the
Assembly are this week.

From around the world many are
traveling to Nashville at this moment.

As you pray this week, ask the Lord to do a deep work in your heart to expose and uproot anything in you that hinders your spiritual progress. The revival at Browntown was one of the best I have been in. From the very begening it was evident that God was with us and wanted to do a work in every life. We would like to thank Bro. Willingham for his faithfulness to God in seeking to obey the Holy Spirit in each services. Many that came experenced Christ in a way they had never before. We stopped to pray Wed. night for a lady that had been to the Dr. and he found a lump in her lymph nodes. The next day she went back for more test when she did the lump was gone. PRAISE THE LORD. There were several other healings and many were sanctified as the spirit moved on them. Thanks to Chad Sizemore that came and sang 2 nights, we also would like to thank all those that came or prayed for this move of God. Wehave been Revived. To God be all the glory.
